Guardian in Terracotta - The Soul bound in Stone
During a business trip, the young graphic designer Chris stumbles upon the statue of a Terracotta Warrior in a dimly lit alcove of his hotel hallway. Although it is most likely just an artful replica, he feels a belonging that reaches to his very soul. In an impulsive moment, he presses an ice cube to the soldier’s stone lips in a symbolic gesture to ease his thirst.
In Sydney, Australia, tea master and Taijiquan instructor James dreams of a compassionate being in the shape of a bear, offering him fresh spring water. Moved by the intensity of his feelings, he discusses the dream with his wife Beth, who considers herself gifted with prophetic powers. While James views his wife’s belief in magic and reincarnation with some skepticism, he follows her advice as long as it doesn’t interfere with his own plans. Beth is convinced there’s a mysterious bond between James and the bear and urges him to search for his soul mate. But James feels a deep affection for Beth and shares a platonic marriage with her, and has no desire to end their arrangement.
But fate finds a cruel way to make the choice for him and change his life forever.
The novel Guardian in Terracotta tells the story of the difficult journey of two lost souls toward one another. Will they find each other again and see their love bloom as it once did? Or will bygone days and the burden of the present weigh too heavily on them, keeping them apart once more?
